A:I asked you to finish it by this morning.I can’t wait any more.(오늘 아침까지 마치라고 얘기했잖아요. 더 이상은 못 기다려요.)
B:I know I am behind the schedule but I had unexpected difficulties.(예정보다 늦은 건 알고 있지만, 뜻밖의 어려움들이 있었습니다.)
A:Put all other things aside and do this first,please.(다 제쳐두고, 이것부터 해주세요.)
B:Okay,I will finish it before lunch.(알았습니다. 점심이전에 마치도록 하겠습니다.)
▶ put∼aside:∼을 제쳐두다.Aside는 ‘옆으로’라는 의미로, 무언가를 옆으로 두다, 즉 ‘제쳐두다’라는 의미가 된다. 대화문에서 Put all other things aside∼라고 했는데, 이는 모든 다른 일은 제쳐두고라는 말로, 우리가 흔히 “만사 제쳐두고”라고 할 때 이 표현을 사용하면 된다.You need to put all other things aside when it’s mealtime.(밥 먹을 때는 만사 제쳐둬야 합니다.)
▶ behind schedule:일정보다 늦은 정해진 일정, 시간보다 늦어진다고 할 때 사용하면 된다. 만일 일정보다 빠르다라고 할 때는 “ahead of schedule”이라고 한다.Don’t worry! We’re two weeks ahead of schedule.(너무 걱정 마세요. 예정보다 2주일 빠르니까요.)
▶ work on∼:∼을 하고 있다. 진행 중이다. 숙제, 과제, 임무 등을 현재 하고 있다라고 할 때,I am working on it. 이라고 하면 간단히 표현할 수 있다.
