날씨가 푹푹 찌네요.

A:It is boiling hot today,isn’t it?(오늘 날씨가 푹푹 찌네요. 안 그래요?)

B:Yes indeed! What is the temperature today?(정말 그렇네요. 오늘 온도가 얼마나 되죠?)

A:It is over 30 degrees for three straight days.(3일째 30도가 넘네요.)

B:Really? I think it is too hot for this time of a year.(그래요? 일년 중 이맘때 치고 너무 더운 것 같아요.)

A:I am afraid that we will have a very steamy summer this year.(올해 너무나 더운 여름이 될까 봐 걱정되네요.)

B:I wish it were winter now.(지금이 겨울이었으면 좋겠어요.)

▶ boiling hot : 푹푹 찌는 ; 너무나 무더운 비슷한 표현으로 다음과 같은 것들이 있다.steamy hot; sweltering; steaming hot.

▶ three straight days : 3일 연속으로. I didn’t have lunch for three straight days.(3일 연속으로 점심을 걸렀어요.)

▶ for this time of a year : 연중 이 즈음 치고는. 여기서 for 의 의미는 “∼ 치고는” 으로 생각해야 한다. 가령 “나이에 비해 혹은 그 나이 치고는 젊어보인다”라고 할 때 다음과 같이 하면 된다.You look young for your age.
